Christianities Toughest Challenges ... Let's face it - Christianity has competition There are hundreds of religious philosophies floating around claiming they ahve the insight on truth. They each appeal to you to follow their brand of reality and ask you to shape your life around it. What are some of the toughest challenges to Christianity and how are we to respond? Can we really know the truth or is truth something each person must determine for himself or found in all religions? In the next few months we will address these questions. September 12 Individualsm .... Our society has lost its moral compass and sense of community because each person is encouraged to live primarily for himself creating the tension between personal freedom and the common good. September 19 MIssionary Presentation ... After starting a church in Columbia, Phil & Deene Webb branched out into a mentoring, discipleship program aimed at Columbian leadership. As well they ahve been used in a spiritual healing ministry in other Latin American countries where our missionaries work. September 26 Naturalism .... "There is no God and everything has a natural explanation. There are no miracles, no moral absolutes and no meaning to life other than what you make of it." October 3 Secular Humanism ... "Society has no need for God or the Bible. Man is good and perfectible and can accomplish great things in and of himself. Through science, literature and arts man can achieve anything he wants." October 10 Adventurism/Entertainment ... "I don't have time for church or for God. I want to have a good time partying, vacationing, boating, TV, movies and anything else that can distract me from asking and dealing with the big questions of life." October 17 Moralism ... Like the Pharisees who missed the point, the Moralist reduces Christianity to a list of dos and donts. "If my good works exceed my bad on a scale of balances, I will get into heaven." Millions of 'good' people will be surprised at death when they discover that their works cannot save them. October 24 Islam ...believes there is one God, Allah. Mohammed is His Prophet and the Koran God's perfect revelation while the Bible is flawed - especially regarding Abraham. It believes Christ is not God and did not die on the cross. October 24 New Age ... Think Oprah, Shirely McClaine and the Dali Lama. New Age is a blending of Eastern Mysticism (e.g. Hinduism and Buddism) with Western philosophies and takes many forms. It teaches man can become his own God and ech person forms his own truth.
